210. The Dream Garden For Busy People Book | Kickstarter Campaign | Beata Basta | France
So I’m posting another episode out of order but I wanted to get it up while Beata’s kickstarter campaign is running.
Beata Basta shares her dream garden journey where she learns from her neighbors on how to do things easier saving time for people living a busy life that want to grow healthy food for their families.
Tell us a little about yourself.
Bea I’m in France, a working mom of 2, that means a lot of things to do and not a lot of time.
Would like to have an organic garden and not a lot of time.
Tell me about your first gardening experience?
Very very first was when I was date of my daughters I was around 5
my parents had their own garden
cultivating their own vegetables
healthy
inside of this garden
I had my own plant
the strawberry
moving the unwatered plants
growing next to my strawberry
after a certain amount of days I could take the fruit of my work
the tastiest strawberries I have
imposilbe to have a dorm in v
same thing at my home
healthy organic garden
show our children
all the fruits and vegetables are coming from the shop…
your work
its easy to have something to go and buy
in the country
now I have the ability to
my skills
located next to
200 km from Paris
south
How did you learn how to garden organically?
yes
mostly yes, nowadays I am learning from my neighbors!
They are amazing
90% didn’t grow
my neighbors grow everything nicely
they are like the best book you know
all these things and advice they
checking those tips
they are the masters
I am taking the tips
trying them at
everything they say is easy to take and start by your own
Tell us about something that grew well this year.
This year is really the first year
I moved
first time since 8 years since I had a garden
I restarted
with the help of my family and neighbors
tomatos and pumpkin
for the moment they are nice
I have pictures that I succeeded at something
I am very proud of my pumpkin
waiting to see the fruits of it, I will make a pumpkin soup and share it with my neighbors
we help her and she made this
Is there something you would do different next year or want to try/new?
I would do a lot of things
I didn’t protect my crops very nicely
cucumber
all the seeds
first moment they started to grow
from the birds
with my cucumber,
with my carrot
tomatoes
good for the birds
not so nice for me
next year
Yes, exactly this is where my neighbors were very helpful
put a lot of empty bottles on a stick, when the wind blow
plastic ones
they can not be very heavy so the wind can be very heavy
Tell me about something that didn’t work so well this season.
Didn’t plant a lot of things… first year wanted to see what I remember
to start something. to really show my children this is a farm part
struggle
fun part
you go you put the seeds in the soil
you wait and water
at this part I succeed
in the end we didn’t have
teaching them perseverance
when they have vegetables from market they will appreciate it
how much work it takes
they are appreciate
Which activity is your least favorite activity to do in the garden.
No, for a moment
time for me to relax really think about other things to actually do,
summarize everything I was doing before
garden is like a yoga,
don’t
now days I want to have
choose something else
adventure
What is your favorite activity to do in the garden.
it’s collecting the fruits of my work if something works and grows nicely
go to the garden and eat
tomatoes
pumpkin you need
things you can just go to eat
harvesting….
What is the best gardening advice you have ever received?
if it didn’t grow the first time try again
keep trying you
making notes
exactly to purpose
what made you go to kickstarter
it was my husband
no book for me
really you have a list of bulletproof plans
even if you don’t have time
just water them
they will grow
this is my dream book
it will be easy
a lot of info was missing
I wasn’t able to
a lot of blogs
put the seed into the soil and it grow
after all I spent several hours
this is why I say
I would like to have a book that will have all this info
if it didn’t work it was probably this
you can change that
beginner you start with this kind of plants
you will succeed
this is my idea
Write the book you want to read!
A favorite tool that you like to use? If you had to move and could only take one tool with you what would it be?
a shovel…
to remove all the plants
A favorite recipe you like to cook from the garden?
pumpkin soup
start
plenty of recipes
one from my mom and she got it from her mom
made of pumpkin boiled with milk
milk soup
with pumpkin
mashed like potatoes
mix
properly
really love it
prepared it twice
difficult to get the proper pumpkin
in the US
for halloween decorations
not the same
in France
difficult to find the proper pumpkin
prepare
add sugar
either eat with pasta
or by itself
really easy
nothing inside
except the pumpkin
hope my pumpkin
only have the very nice flowers
A favorite internet resource?
for the moment I really look at my neighbors I have never found the blog or the internet book… that would have the info
for the moment
never find your podcast before.
find it very interesting
a lady from France also creating her own garden
another podcast about her work
all the difference
something I also need to have a part of my neighbors
not just have a few sentences
prepare in the way I would like to read for others
only for me that didn’t work…
the thing with them, they are not busy people
mostly they are retired
because of that they tested several things
they had the time
they are very good at things
they have tested
right away
the tomatoes didn’t grow because you didn’t fertilize it
one kind of fertilizer that you should use and your tomatoes will grow
bottles and the birds will go away
when should be the watering time
morning afternoon evening
depending on the plant that I have
for me
its fascinating they say
A favorite reading material-book, mag, blog/website etc you can recommend?
I have one. I would say
It is written in my native language
plants and herbs in your garden
basically 100 should work in your garden. a lot of information what to do with them when they grow…
cookbook
more like if they start to grow
inside there was nothing like
I am living in France and my native language is Poland
coming from Poland
easy to detect that
Final question-
If there was one change you would like to see to create a greener world what would it be?
I think to explain to people
everyone will have something green
any plant it’s easy
show them
ABCD
you will have a nice greenish part in the balcony
Whenever I ask them opinion about plants they say, no, it’s a lot of work it’s a lot of time and I don’t have time.
The only thing is to change the opinion of people to say it’s easy
like that everyone will have something
this will make a greener world
especially your private neighborhood and environment.
Kickstarter is to create a book.
Prepare the bulletproof list of plants
That are really bulletproof for anyone at any level.
Especially for people like me at the beginner level
find a plant that will really grow
you don’t have time
everyone is working a lot of days
crazy hours so it’s very difficult to follow and think about watering plants
The idea was to have
plants that will grow even if you don’t have a lot of time, you will still have something green in your house!
You will be great
the idea behind it is
like to see
if having a book is there a positive impact
will have a positive review
if people give me even one $dollar. It’s not just my crazy idea if it is someone else that would like to have that kind of information. You can donate from as little as one to how much as you like just to say you like the idea.
If you donate $5 you will receive the book a hard copy. If you put like $50 you would be like a co-author with a name on the cover to say I helped create this book.
Do you have an inspiration tip or quote to help motivate our listeners to reach into that dirt and start their own garden?
Just start and then the fun will come!
How do we connect with you?
Kickstarter campaign for Dream Garden For Busy People
I would try to name it… like book… so it will be easy like the book.
also nice pictures…
