first your gonna wash and chop

take one head of Napa Cabbage

  • chop one head of Napa cabbage
  • broccoli florets
  • green onions

sub in vegetables that are available

garlic Scapes

We have scapes at our house!

slowly pull the scape out of the garlic plant

when the garlic grows

tender piece that turns into the flower 

if it turns into the flower it takes all the energy

You don’t want it to flower

pull that out, and pull it quite gently you’ll get quite a long scape

Does it taste like garlic?

Yes it does!

  • tender
  • chop it up
  • fresh garlic
  • pesto if you want

Napa cabbage

I use scapes instead of green onions

She says chop but I might do it pretty thinly sliced

Most of us probably don’t chew enough

So we can start the chewing process outside our body

make a sauce

  • garlic clove
  • fresh greens or green onions

quarter teaspoon ginger or fresh ginger!

Hey you know what I got in NY? Fresh Turmeric

They have it here at the health food stores well

It will turn everything orange

old cheese

remain kind of a gold color

but you do need to mind that it is a dye as well

  • turmeric
  • olive oil
  • avocado oil
  • coconut oil
  • rice vinegar
  • soy sauce or Bragg’s amino acids

there’s a Braggs coconut amino acids instead of soy

  • plain greek yogurt

I’ve been really enjoying plain greek yogurt!

  • You can add some local raw honey or maple syrup on the East Coast if that is accessible

chow mein noodles

up for the carbs

raw version of what to do with cabbage

  • ginger
  • rice vinegar
  • yogurt
  • soy sauce

will help aid in that digestive process

It’s not that you’re eating raw food that doesn’t have fiber

Cabbage Comfort Food

My former mother-in-law Jamaican

  • watch her do in the kitchen

she’s cooking me the cabbage

very homey and soothing

She will start with some kind of oil and add spices

  • cumin
  • ginger
  • garlic

condiments

  • onions
  • fresh garlic if you have it
  • peppers

if you don’t have peppers you can skip them

if you’re trying to be seasonal

stalks of heartier greens

kale or chard

crunch from stalks

  • salt
  • pepper
  • cumin
  • coriander

turmeric and ginger as well

you can use the Napa cabbage  but it will cook a lot quicker

really thinly

mix the red and green together

whole head of cabbage

it will take up some room but it will cook down

slice that really thinly

toss it around

spices make it so delicious

add whatever vegetables you have mix with other greens

I added some shitake mushrooms for some protein the other day

Can be such a soothing side dish

I even had it as a main dish when I cooked it with mushrooms

mix it with rice

serve it with fish

We’ll talk about fermenting maybe in the fall.

Do you use the Napa cabbage?

You could use but it will cook quicker

Could you use a red cabbage?

red or a green cabbage

can’t really go wrong unless your cooking lentils and pasta together! That’s a mistake I made when I was 21!

Are cabbages in Montana ready now?

I had a Napa cabbage from farm share a few weeks ago?

I had at least 2 cabbages already!

Wow ours are just babies in the ground?!

Even if they’re not u yet I think it could be in the future.

It’s been raining, we’ve been getting firewood!
